Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the seventh main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, and the first since Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008.

Set within the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California, the game follows three criminals and their efforts to commit heists while under pressure from a government agency and powerful criminals. The open world design lets players freely roam San Andreas' open countryside and the fictional city of Los Santos, based on Los Angeles.

Grand Theft Auto V's story revolves around three protagonists: Michael De Santa, a retired bank robber in witness protection; Franklin Clinton, a young gang banger in search of opportunities; and Trevor Philips, a violent drug dealer and Michael's former partner. These characters will intersect with various criminals and special agents in a series of heists. The game also contains a comprehensive online multiplayer mode, Grand Theft Auto Online. In this mode, up to 30 players can engage in a variety of cooperative and competitive game modes.

GTA V was released to critical acclaim, with praise directed at its multiple protagonist design, open world, presentation and gameplay.

The plot of GTA V is divided into several heists, during which the protagonists steal specific items or people. In between these heists, the protagonists can explore the open world, which is mostly based on Southern California. Players can engage in various side missions involving the three protagonists, which can improve their skills and provide money to fund the main missions. The open world also contains dynamic events that the protagonists can get involved in, and numerous side activities, such as golf, tennis, yoga, and hunting. The player can also customize the protagonists' appearances and purchase vehicles, weapons, and properties.
