Kratos accepts the deal, and sets out to kill Ares.

After defeating many more enemies and overcoming many challenges, Kratos finally confronts Ares in a climactic battle. With the help of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, Kratos defeats Ares and becomes the new god of war. However, the power of the gods begins to corrupt him, and he becomes obsessed with seeking revenge on those who have wronged him. Athena warns him that this path will lead to disaster, but Kratos ignores her warnings.
